Nothing Is Wasted
When “fine” stops being enough, one of the first fears that can pop up is wondering if changing direction means it was all a waste.
Questioning the years of energy dedicated to a career, a home, a role, or a life you once thought you wanted. That fear can keep people stuck for a long time because no one wants to feel foolish or look back and wonder why they spent so much time trying to make something work.
I see this with women who have stayed with one company for years, even when the work no longer fulfills them. I see it with small business owners who have poured so much into an idea that it feels painful to admit it’s time for something else. I see it with people who built the dream home, raised the kids, and then feel confused when a part of them wants something different.
It Was Right for That Version of You
But changing direction does not mean the old direction was wrong. Nothing is wasted. The life you built taught you something. The work you did served a purpose, and the version of you who made those choices was doing the best she could with what she knew at the time.
You may have gained skills, resilience, clarity, patience, confidence, or a much better understanding of what no longer serves you.
We all go through periods of reinvention. We are allowed to learn, grow, and become more honest about what is right for us now. Personal growth would not exist if we were meant to stay in the same place forever.
So if you’re questioning something you once worked hard to build, try not to judge yourself. Maybe it wasn’t a mistake. It may simply have been right for that part of your life, and now you know more than you did then.
