What Would You Do If You Had a Million Dollars?

I read Don’t Believe Everything You Think this weekend, and there was a question that reminded me of one I’ve asked many friends: “If I had infinite money, had no fear, and didn’t feel the need to receive any recognition, what would I do or create?”

My version is a little different, but I’ve always loved the Office Space question: What would you do if you had a million dollars? 😊 If you’re just sitting around with friends having fun, you can stop with a simple answer, even if your answer is “absolutely nothing.” There are no wrong answers in this game.

But if you are using the exercise to discover what genuinely brings you joy, “nothing” is just the beginning. What does nothing mean to you? Are you sitting on the couch staring at a white wall? Probably not. Maybe you’re puttering around your garden, reading, binging Netflix, fishing, or spending more time with friends.

Then keep digging deeper. What do you love about that activity? Why is that important to you? It sounds repetitive, but whatever you answered, now ask why that is important to you.

What Are You Really Looking For?

If your answer is travel, maybe you’ll find out it’s not really about travel. It’s about freedom, learning, food, new experiences, or simply getting away from your routine. If the answer is doing nothing, maybe what you really want is less pressure, more control over your day, or more time doing the things you enjoy. It could even be about inner peace.

When you answer, don’t let your mind immediately move to whether it’s practical. Stay with the fantasy for a minute. If the possibilities and resources really were limitless, what would you want to do?

You may not suddenly discover exactly what you should do next, but if you keep digging into your answers, you may start to notice what gives you energy, what you value, and what you want more of in your life.

That might be an easier place to start than, “what should I do next?”

Reflection Question: If money, fear, and recognition weren’t part of the equation, what would you want to spend more of your time doing?

✨ If you’re trying to figure out what comes next and noticing that some of your own patterns are getting in the way, I’m starting another small mental fitness group in the next couple of weeks. A few women have already expressed interest, and I have room for a couple more. Message me if you’d like the details.
